SVARNISH
    SVARNISH is an EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) project aiming to develop a printing varnish with antimicrobial, oxygen and water vapor barrier properties as well as improved physic-mechanical properties, to be used in food packaging industry.

BIOACTIVELAYER

BIOACTIVELAYER
    A fascinating new packaging development project has started, searching the production of a biodegradable, multi-layer packaging for dried food applications. The project is being led by Hatzopoulos Company and has been supported by €1.2 million of funding from the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).

The European Rotogravure Association, ERA, founded in 1956, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting users of the gravure printing process. ERA's mission is to promote gravure wherever it is applied and to contribute to the healthy continuity of the gravure industry through the exchange of technical information between the members.

Legislation On Inks
German Legislation on printing inks. The ordinance will cover inks applied both in non-food contact and in food contact surface. Hence the positive list of substances will be adjusted, since inks for food contact surface were not initially included. The required Declaration of Compliance will follow the European Union Guidance with a requirement of declaring all the substances that might migrate. Definition of ink is still under interpretation and most probable date of measure application is the third quarter of 2015.

Flexible packaging materials are made from combination of plastic, paper or metal films which can be coated with various coatings, adhesives and inks, which through the manufacturing process , are converted to the film which is used for the packaging of each individual final product.

The above materials may contain substances, usually with low molecular weight and high volatility, which can be perceived and are responsible for the odor, the intensity of which is affected by factors such as the concentration of the substances and the temperature to which it is exposed.

Flexible packaging materials should be designed to play multiple roles throughout the supply chain (from the converter to the consumer). These roles, or better these functions (see the following list), need to be covered from the designer in order to develop a functional, safe and successful packaging material.

Regulation (ΕU) 1169/2011 on the provision on food information to the consumers
The regulation entered into force on December 20111 and shall apply from 12/12/2014. It is amending regulations (EU)1924/2066 and (EU) 1925/2006 and repealing six relevant directives and regulation (EK) 608/2004.
