SVARNISH is an EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) project aiming to develop a printing varnish with antimicrobial, oxygen and water vapor barrier properties as well as improved physic-mechanical properties, to be used in food packaging industry.
The Kick off Meeting of SVARNISH, October 2013, took place in Valencia at AIDO headquarters, coordinator of the project. The consortium will continue work for 2 years, being supported by € 1.11 million. The partners involved are the Technological Institute of Optics, Colour and Imaging 9AIDO), Artibal S.A. (inks, varnished and lacquers manufacturing company), Nofima Norway (a food research company), Sampas Nanotechnology Turkey (a company focusing on commercialization of custom designed nano and green technology solutions), Aroma Praha A.S., Czech Republic (production of flavors, foodstuffs, fragrances and aroma chemicals), the UK Materials Research Institute, A. Hatzopoulos S.A and Ferrero Group Italy.
The SVARNISH project targets to overcome the flexible packaging limitations related with the traditional plastic materials, competitive costs, the chemical properties (antimicrobial, oxygen and water vapor), physic-mechanical properties (simplifying the multilayer structures as well as improving the simple ones).
